Frequently Asked Questions regarding "Minor Earth, Major Sky"

This Frequently Asked Questions (also known as a FAQ) page has been created to answer many of the questions raised by the upcoming release of a-ha's seventh CD, "Minor Earth, Major Sky".

Last Updated: 22nd July 2000

Sources: a-ha's Management | WEA Germany | Warner Music International

Q: When is "Minor Earth, Major Sky" going to be released?

A: "Minor Earth, Major Sky" was released in most of the world (except the U.S.) in the Spring of 2000. Check the release date information page for specific release dates per country (where available).

Q: When is "Minor Earth, Major Sky" going to be released in (insert country here)?

A: a-ha's new record company, WEA Germany (Warner Germany), are currently promoting the album to its sister labels in the Warner Music Group worldwide. It's up to the local distributors to decide when to release the CD in their country/region - It is hoped that the album will be released worldwide (except in the U.S.) within weeks of the April 17th release date in Germany. (that's the plan anyway)

Check back with H&D for updated release date information.

Q: When is "Minor Earth, Major Sky" going to be released in the U.S.?

A: This is a bit more complicated... a-ha and their management feel that for "Minor Earth, Major Sky" to be successful in America, that they will need to devote a lot of time to promote the album in the U.S., which they can't do if they are busy promoting the album in the rest of the world. :) a-ha have since signed a U.S. distribution deal with Atlantic Records for "Minor Earth, Major Sky", and a-ha, Atlantic, and WEA Germany are currently working on plans to "re-launch" a-ha" in the U.S. (either later this year or Spring 2001)

NOTE: a-ha's management has revealed that a-ha are close to getting one of their new songs on a upcoming major Hollywood motion picture soundtrack later this year. This is part of their plan to "reintroduce a-ha to America". The only hint about the movie is that the actress Liv Tyler ("Armageddon") will be starring in it.

Q: What is the first single from "Minor Earth, Major Sky"?

A: It's "Summer Moved On", which will be released to radio the 21st of February and made available for sale on the 27th of March in Germany, Norway, Austria, and Switzerland. Check back with H&D for updated release date information for your country.

Q: Isn't that the same song as they performed at the 1998 Nobel Peace Concert? I had heard that the new single was going to be "Velvet" (which had appeared on Savoy's first album "Mary Is Coming")

A: Yes, it is the same song, however it has since been remixed by Andreas 'Boogieman' Herbig, and now is "a very radio oriented track that all a-ha fans will love.", as described by Erling Johannessen, a-ha's Norwegian manager.

"Velvet" had long been considered the first single, as Paul Waaktaar-Savoy had originally written the song for a-ha, but it was later decided to go with the remixed version of "Summer Moved On" instead.

Q: Will "Summer Moved On" have a music video?

A: Yes, a music video for "Summer Moved On" was filmed March 3rd-6th in Spain. It is currently in rotation on MTV Nordic & MTV Europe, as well as the TMF networks in Belgium and Holland, and VH1 Germany, and other European music networks.

Q: Does a-ha have any plans to tour?

A: a-ha would like to tour, but the main deciding factor has been to see how the new album is received first. If/When they decide to tour, it won't be until October 2000 at the earliest. (a-ha still have to promote "Minor Earth, Major Sky" outside Europe, which will take most of the summer, as well as time to setup and practice a live set) More information on concert dates will be posted on H&D when they are made available.
